The Adaptronic e420 project was started in November of 2001. It was intended to be a sophisticated, adaptive ECU which could be implemented on cost-effective hardware, and therefore sold at a competitive price.
The original ecu was Andrew Wyatt's thesis project for his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics). Since then many updates and changes have been made to make the e420c what it is today, with e420s now installed and running in a variety vehicles from single cylinder motorbikes to v8s, rotaries, turbo, supercharged and NA vehicles, drag cars, race cars, jet skis and diesels!
The e420c was designed, implemented and is manufactured in Australia. Beta testing was done largely in Sydney, with some done in Wollongong, the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne, in the UK and the Caribbean.
Andy has a Bachelor of Science (Computer) from the University of Sydney, and is also a graduate of Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics, Hons I). The original adaptronic ecu was his final year thesis project. In his final year, Andy took out the Professional Communication first prize for his presentation on his thesis topic, shared the Best Graduation Thesis award, won the University Medal (the only one awarded in Engineering for 2003) and has won several other awards, scholarships and prizes at the University of Sydney.
Andy has tutored second year engineering courses at the university, both in Thermodynamics and in Mechatronics (embedded systems design and programming). He has also worked as an embedded systems engineer since September 2000 at BCS Electronic Design. Before his double degree, Andy worked as an assistant manager of a Jaycar Electronics store.
