Twin turbo operation
The factory twin turbocharger system on the RX7 uses four control valves:
1) The turbo control valve; this is the main exhaust flap to flow exhaust through the second turbo
2) The intake control valve; this output must be driven opposite to the turbo control valve; when activated, it closes off the compressor exit of the second turbo
3) The precontrol valve; this allows a small amount of exhaust to flow through the second turbine
4) The charge relief valve; this allows the excess air from the second turbo to flow back into the intake We drive this using two outputs; one drives the twin turbo control (and intake control) activated on RPM and MAP. The other is configured as a precontrol output; this is controlled by the ECU to come on a fixed time before the twin turbo RPM condition is met. Often there will be a dip in the torque when transitioning to the second turbo, even on a production, unmodified car.
The following is a dyno plot of an unmodified twin turbo FD: Blue = factory ECU, and the red = the Adaptronic.
